About the Artist
Evelyn Michaelides is a sculptor based in Melbourne, Victoria, whose work is influenced by her Mediterranean heritage. Each piece is intuitively hand-carved and handmade, celebrating the relationship between material and form.
Her sculptures evoke a sense of calm, inviting viewers into a world of aesthetic repose. Drawing inspiration from nature, ancient traditions, and the human experience, Evelyn explores the interplay of light, shadow, and texture. Her works carry a quiet presence, embodying a timeless quality that resonates with both contemporary and classical sensibilities.
Working primarily with limestone, Evelyn embraces the raw beauty of her medium, allowing each sculpture to emerge naturally through the carving process. This intuitive approach fosters a deep connection between the artist, the material, and the final form.
Evelyn continues to develop her practice, exploring new ways to express balance, movement, and serenity through sculpture.
Evelyn was nominated for the prestigious Omnia Art Prize 2025 for her sculpture Poima.
Process & Materials
Considered, tactile and calm — every stage is finished by hand to preserve the softness of the stone.
Materials
Local limestone and hebel blocks, chosen for open grain and warmth.
Process
Hand-carved with chisels and rifflers, refined through slow sanding.
Made to Order
Consultation, sketches, and measured lead times for bespoke works.
Each sculpture is remade as close to the dimensions for each customer; and due to the handmade nature of these sculptures, please allow some variations in colour, shapes and sizes. No two pieces look alike.
Each piece of limestone has its own special characteristics that make it one of a kind. Your sculpture could have fossils or shells or formations that are unique to each piece.
Looking after your sculpture — at first glance it may seem sturdy, but it is delicate and porous, handle with care.
Treat it like a priceless work of art first, and a functional piece second.
